Aegis Necklace
When Athena was born sprung from the head of her father Zeus she became instantly one of the Twelve Olympian Gods. Zeus was very fond of his new daughter so much that he allowed her to wear his Aegis. An Aegis is a shield-like breast covering. Zeus' Aegis had the head of Medusa on it. Medusa was a gorgon who had snakes for hair and could turn men into stone with a single look. It was so horrible to look at that enemies instantly feared her. The snakes from her Aegis inspire this necklace, a more beautiful version of the piece the goddess wore.
This necklace is made with a hand-made snake bead with a single Swarovski crystal eye. The rest alternates seed beads and black onyx. It measures 18" in length and has a hand-made copper clasp.
