There are many stories of the jealous Hera and her husband’s wandering eye. One time a young woman named Io caught Zeus’ eye. Hera became so jealous that she turned the woman into a white cow. She then placed a guard on her, a hundred eyed monster named Argus. Zeus sent Mercury to attempt to free poor Io. Mercury was often thought of as a clever God and he quickly devised a plan. He patiently sat and told stories to Argus, one after another. Eventually the eyes of the monster began to close, one by one. When he was at last asleep, Mercury killed him and freed Io. Hera was so upset by the death of her guard that she took Argus’ hundred eyes and put them on the peacock’s feathers. The bird became one of her symbols and the story remains to tell us how a peacock got its eyes.

These earrings are made with Natural Peacock Feathers and Freshwater Pearls. They measure 3 1/2" in length and have gold plated leverback earwires. *Please note that size of the feathers may vary*
