Hephaestus was the lame God of the forge. It is believed that when he was born his mother Hera thought he was so ugly that she threw him from Mount Olympus. He fell into the sea where he was rescued by Thetis and raised in an underwater sea cave.  He learned the craft of metalworking there and made a gift for his dear foster mother. Hephaestus placed brightly colored jewels in the ocean and made them move.  We know these jewels as tropical fish. The Hephaestus necklace symbolizes the connection between this God and the sea with lava stones and freshwater pearls.
